The treatment process involves the application of cups on various points of the body. A negative pressure (suction) is then created by using a hand pump. This is then followed by applying small, superficial scratches or incisions onto the same location point of the body. This is performed by using a sterile surgical instrument that is disposable. The cups are then re-applied and suction is applied again. The toxic blood is gradually drawn out and then safely disposed.
Be rest assured that Cupping Therapy is a safe procedure if performed correctly (by a qualified practitioner).
An initial assessment will be carried out at the time of booking to pick up any contraindications and a full medical assessment will be carried out at the beginning of your appointment. Clients are advised to fast for a minimum of three hours prior to their appointment to obtain maximum benefit.
To note, whilst Cupping therapy has no major side effects there may be some minor side effects that you should know about and understand.
One should understand and accept the possibility that there may be marks that will last for a few days including the production of circular bruises or discolorations where the cups were applied. The superficial scratch marks usually fades within three weeks and does not usually result in scarring if the appropriate after care advice has been adhered to. However, a very small percentage of individuals may incur scarring due to their skin type or failure to follow the after care advice.
Certain areas of the body are more sensitive than others, so there maybe minimal discomfort due to the application of scratches to the patient’s skin surface. Other possible minor side effects include: Feeling light headed post treatment this is similar to the sensation one feels after a blood test. Cupping therapy encourages blood flow to the cupped area (hyperemia) one may feel warmer as a result of vasodilation (widening of blood vessel) and slight sweating may occur followed by feeling cooler. There is a sound scientific rationale for this and there is no cause for concern.
All of our male and female practitioners are qualified to a Level 5 Diploma in Cupping Therapy. The clinic is fully insured and is registered with various medical associations including CMA (Complimentary Medical Association).
VI Therapy adheres to strict universal cross infection control procedures which includes: a clean practice, areas are disinfected and freshly covered for each and every patient, use of disinfection prior to treatment, hand wash routine, single use surgical disposable blades, disposable plastic cups, disposable latex/nitrile powder free gloves.
